Connect

The ClimaCab Connect system allows for connecting two ClimaCabs together. We construct a rectangle connector that slides between the ClimaCabs. Following positioning of the connector, high quality matte black carriage bolts and specialty nuts complete the assembly. The connector is typically made from the same wood as the primary wood species; however, options are available to incorporate any wood species into this component.

Pricing is based on the same tiered structure as other components and options, with the wood species being the primary determinant. Pricing includes staining and/or solid color application if already purchased with the ClimaCab.

Tongue/Groove Back

Overview

The back of the ClimaCab is often a location where a secondary wood species are brought into the ClimaCab. Due to the size of this part, it has the most profound effect on the overall appearance second only to the primary wood species of the ClimaCab.

The Tongue and Groove back is comprised of 4" wide pieces of wood with a tongue on one edge and a groove on the other edge. As these pieces are assembled together, they create a paneled appearance and make for an exceptionally strong back. We mount the individual pieces onto Baltic Birch back with screws from the back of the ClimaCab.

We must install a Tongue and Groove for wood species that do not have cabinet grade plywood available. A few examples are Flame Maple, African Mahogany, and Grey Elm, as well as most exotic species. In some instances, this aesthetic feature could be desired regardless plywood availability. For example, with wood species such as Cherry, Walnut, or Northern White Ash.

Pricing

Pricing is dependent on the wood species chosen. Please contact us to discuss and we will provide a quote.

Height

Our standard upper section height is thoughtfully sized to create a dimensionally correct storage space for instruments. In addition, when combined with the standard lower section it creates a ClimaCab that is six foot in height. Alterations to our standard size may be necessary or required depending on certain situations, including room constraints and the instruments to be stored.

UV Blocking/Safety Glass

Overview

1/8" laminated UV Blocking/Safety Glass acts as a safety glass and also eliminates 99.9% of UV rays from entering the humidor. This is accomplished with a transparent interlayer, which is bonded between two 1/16" panels of glass. The PVB (Polyvinyl butyral) interlayer does not interfere with optical clarity while providing strength and binding the two panels of glass to one another. In the event that impact were to occur, it cracks instead of breaking into jagged pieces.

Many finishes used on instruments are prone to cracking and fading with excess UV ray exposure. In addition, certain woods, such as Adirondack Spruce, are prone to yellowing with excess UV ray exposure. impacting the finish on your instruments.

This glass option is highly recommended for safety for the instruments, wood surfaces of the humidor, and people interacting with the humidor.

Appearance

Door/Side Panel Type

Cabinetry paneling is used on the sides below the glass panels and on the doors accessing the lower section of the ClimaCab. In addition, if drawers are included, the drawer fronts would come standard with a small panel. The function of the panel is to allow a natural space for wood to move. The framework around the panel has a mortise on the interior edge. The panel is fashioned with a tenon around the perimeter, which fits into the mortise. We offer two types of panels - Mission or Raised.

A Mission Panel is a simpler, contemporary design used predominantly in modern style cabinetry. It also has a center panel and a flat frame overlay around the edge. The mission panel features straight lines and there is no decorative carving or raising in either the panel or the overlay. The center panel itself is completely flat, like a slab cabinet door, and the overlay around the edge is very sleek and simplistic looking. It's definitely a "less is more" design that is timeless and fits well with many interior spaces.

A Raised Panel design is a more formal design, used predominantly in traditional style cabinetry. In a raised panel, the cabinet is made up of a center panel and an outer rim or overlay. The center panel is carved on the edges which yields a raised center. The edges slope backward to the edges with a variety of profiles based on the cutter heads used. The entire effect is to make the cabinet door look as though it was carved out of a single, large plank, and it’s often subtly decorative in style. In addition to the panel appearance, selecting this option includes a Raised Panel Frame Edge Profile around the panel and the glass.

Raised Panel

Raised Panel Frame Edge Profile

Glass Door Fronts

Replace the standard wood panel with glass to showcase certain items stored in the lower section, such as books, amplifiers, and effects pedals. We have the option to install UV Blocking/Safety Glass as well as interior LED lighting. Pricing varies based on ClimaCab size and whether we integrate the glass and lighting.

Amplifier Pull Out Shelves

Overview

Our amplifier pull out shelves are durable and can be custom designed to fit a variety of common amplifiers. The hardware we use has a soft close feature, so when your done simply shove the shelf/amp backwards and it will return to the resting position smoothly.

Construction

  • Shelves are flat and constructed with a 1/2" cabinet grade plywood deck and perimeter hardwood edge. The hardwood edge provides rigidity, conceals plywood edge, and is 1/8" higher than the deck to create a lip which prevents amplifiers from slipping off.

Wood Type

  • Typically the shelves are made from the same wood type as the ClimaCab; however, we can make them from any wood. Additional costs may apply for exotic and domestic wood species.

Hardware

  • Blum undermount, full extension soft close slides
  • 75 pound weight limit

Size

  • Custom made to size, dependent on the width of the ClimaCab and the required width for the amplifier(s)
  • For larger size ClimaCabs, multiple amplifier pull out shelves can be installed

Amp / Lower Section Height Chart

In most situations, the standard 17" high lower section must be expanded to accommodate the height of the amplifier on the pull out shelf. The shelf plus the hardware consumes 2 1/2" at the floor of the lower section and the face framing consumes another 4". A safe rule of thumb when estimating height required is to measure the amplifier resting on the ground to the top of the handle in its highest position and add 8". This will give a clearance of approximately 1 1/2" from the top of the handle to the upper face frame and account for any inaccuracies when measuring.

The table below will assist in determining height requirements to store your amplifier in the lower section of the ClimaCab.

Fixed and Adjustable Shelving

Overview

Fixed shelving means that the shelf cannot be moved up or down. These shelves are partial width, meaning the shelf spans from the side of the humidifier box to the inside of the lower section. There are two options - either position a singular shelf on each side of the humidifier box, which yields an opening of approximately 7". If the shelf or shelves are desired lower than the humidifier box, we can run a pair of boards down from the bottom of the humidifier box to the floor. This allows for shelves anywhere within the entire lower section and also creates an additional storage cubby below the humidifier box that is approximately 8 1/2" wide x 5" height.

Adjustable shelving is capable of being moved up/down by positioning metal shelf stays in pre-drilled holes. Since the main purpose is to give maximum adjustability and make these shelves more versatile, it is recommended to utilize the second option described above, which would allow for moving them up/down within the entire lower section. With that said, there are no hard rules and multiple configurations

Hardware & Supports

  • Fixed shelving typically utilizes hardwood shelf supports mounted to the outer wood pieces of the opening.

  • Adjustable shelving utilizes metal shelf stays, which are inserted into pre-drilled holes along the front and back edges of the outer wood pieces of the opening

Construction

  • All shelving is constructed from 3/4" cabinet grade plywood with a hardwood edge

Size and Quantity

  • Shelf size and quantity depends on the width of the ClimaCab, plus other factors

Pricing

  • $175/fixed shelf
  • $225/adjustable shelf

General Use Pull Out Shelves & Trays

Overview

Shelves vs Trays

  • Shelves are flat and with a 1/2" cabinet grade plywood deck. Deck is finished with a hardwood edge that is 1/8" higher than the deck to create a lip which prevents items from slipping off

  • Trays have a similar 1/2" cabinet grade plywood bottom and a hardwood border of various heights. The minimum is 2 1/2" and the maximum is typically around 6-7". All tray hardwood borders feature half-blind dovetailed construction and a small curved portion routed out of the front edge

  • Both are fully concealed behind the lower section doors

Hardware

  • Both shelves and trays utilize Blum under mount soft close slides, with full extension from the lower section

Size

  • Deck size depends on the width of the ClimaCab
  • For larger size ClimaCabs, multiple pull out shelves can be installed to fill the entire lower section

Pricing

  • Pull out shelf - $325; Pull out tray - $375

  • One time fee of $350 to expand lower section to 22 1/2" or $500 expanded more than 22 1/2" for most wood species. Exotic woods may incur additional cost based on board footage price

Half-Blind Dovetail Drawers

Overview

Hardware

  • Dividers - +$150/drawer

  • Split level - +$175/drawer

Height

Overview

Most of the time when lower section storage solutions are used, the height of the lower section must increase. For a low profile lower section, there are two options listed below. We are currently developing the first ClimaCabs without a lower section and will add to the photography when those are completed

  • Low Profile: our low profile lower section measures 10 1/2" in height, reducing the overall cabinet height by 6 1/2".

  • Ultra Low Profile: by incorporating a slightly smaller humidification reservoir, we can reduce the lower section to 8 1/2"
  • No Lower Section: In situations where height restrictions exist, we can completely eliminate the lower section. This is most likely applicable for rooms with sloped ceilings. When we remove the lower section, there are two options for humidity control. First, we can create a hardwood box which would be placed in the center of the upper section on the floor. Second, the ClimaCab can be humidified by only using the Boveda Two Way Humidity packets.

Pricing

Low Profile: same cost as a standard lower section (17" height)

No Lower Section: -$250

Boveda Only Humidification / Eliminate Acoustic Remedy Humidity Control System: -$250

Addition of Internal Box to House Acoustic Remedy Humidity Control System (only applicalbe to No Lower Section Option): +$200

Dehumidification

In order to combat high humidity in ClimaCabs, there are two primary solutions. When a small amount of dehumidification is required (approximately 3-5%), we would recommend utilizing the Boveda 49% High Absorption (HA) packets and removing all water from the reservoir. These packets are designed to target 49% and can absorb 3x more moisture than Boveda 49%. On average, they can absorb around 25 grams of water per packet and we recommend using 10 packets to increase the possible water absorption to 250 grams if required.

For more extreme situations, we have a very effective approach. By utilizing our dehumidification module with the Acoustic Remedy Humidity Control System, you can expect reducing interior humidity levels quickly. The process is simple and involves switching the humidification reservoir with a dehumidification reservoir and making a few quick changes on the smart controller. Internal humidity levels come down from dangerous to safe levels almost immediately and the dehumidification reservoir features rechargeable desiccant beads, making it a viable long term solution to high humidity.

Boveda Only

This option utilizes a low depth box below the floor of the upper section which can house up to six Boveda Cedar Packet Holders capable of holding twelve two-way humidity control packets.

It is tailored towards climates that have ideal ambient humidity levels. When air exchanged into the ClimaCab, it is already at or near 45 -50%. By removing the powered humidification system and using Boveda packets only, the ClimaCab can be maintained at proper humidity with very little effort.

To check ambient humidity levels in your region, please visit our Humidity and Instruments page.

Overview

Woodwright's entire line of finishing products has been time tested in its durability, high build, beautiful luster, heat and humidity resistance and protection from harmful elements that can mar the appearance of your ClimaCab over time.

Some wood species stain quite well, including most common domestic species, while others are not recommended for staining. In terms of painting, woods such as Northern White Ash and Oak tend to have prominent grain patterns which will show through the paint. On the other hand, Maple will paint perfectly smooth with no grain showing through.

All stains and paints are finishd with a triple coat of catalyzed lacquer, applied with perfection.

Click the images in each collection to visit the stain browsers. The browsers feature the ability to filter by common wood species and see how the stain will appear on that wood. Sometimes this is enough to make decisions with; however, we typically encourage you to use the browsers to select a few options and place an order for 6" x 10" samples. The samples are $10 each and if you participate in our wood sample return program, we will refund the purchase price.

Other Brands/Custom

We can implement other stain brands as long as they are compatible with our oil based catalyzed lacquer. This is very important because water based stains will cause issues with the lacquer topcoat application. Oftentimes we will recommend getting in the same color family as the stain you are trying to match. The reason is because trying to match perfectly is difficult due to natural aging, patina, and mellowing of certain wood species. Every situation is unique, so if this option interests you, please reach out for advice, recommendations, and options.

Tinted Lacquer & Paints

Woodwright Tinted Lacquer

The option to apply a solid color to the ClimaCab is best described as "painting"; however, we actually tint the lacquer. This process results in a similar effect as applying an actual paint, by completing covering any natural color from the wood, while allowing for the natural grain patterns to show through the lacquer. Certain woods such as Northern White Ash is a popular choice to see some texture after the surfaces are coated and Maple will tend to remain very smooth with no texture.

Woodwright has matched several popular paint brands, such as Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams. We will work one-on-one with Woodwright and our finisher to ensure the correct formulas are derived to apply the tinted lacquer correctly. We highly recommend obtaining physical samples to drive decisions . Options such as Piano Black and various shades of white have been used with great success for many years.

Other Brands/Custom

Sometimes the tinted lacquer process is not possible and in those circumstances we can apply actual paint. This process is done at a different finishing shop due to the specialty equipment required for a quality finish. We can implement other paint brands during this process and can match existing furniture, cabinetry, and trim provided we receive information regarding the brand, formula, paint type, sheen, primer requirements, and more.

Since this is such a customized approach, we will coordinate all necessary details and communicate with the finishing shop to ensure the final result is perfect. Pricing for this option is determined by many factors, so we will provide those details as the project progresses.

Pricing

$450

Order Samples

After browsing the stain collections, we can send 6" x 10" samples to assist in the decision making process. These pieces are cut from the same hardwood and are professionaly finished identically to the ClimaCabs. As part of AR Sustainability initiatives, we have implemented a Wood Sample Return Program where we will refund the cost of the sample if they are shipped back following use with a prepaid shipping label.

Accent Woods

We can add accents to the primary wood species/stain by implementing a secondary wood species/stain. This accenting is done with individual component pieces, providing either contrast or complementing to one another. One of the most popular combination is a stained primary wood species with a natural (aka unstained) variation of the same wood species as the accents. This yields a nice two tone look of the darker primary wood species/stain with the lighter colored accents. Any wood species from our expansive wood catalog is available as an accent. Please inquire for availability and pricing on these wood species.

  • Vent Plate
  • 1/4 Round
  • Hardwood hanger blocks (if applicable)
  • Slat wall (if applicable)
  • Neck and Bout Rest display option (if applicable)
  • Tongue and groove back (if applicable)

Pricing is determined upon selection of wood species and while most wood species do not incur additional price, some domestics and exotics may. We will work with you to determine the best option and provide pricing at that time.

Overview

Hardware

Coved Finger Pulls

This option may be desirable for those who do not want external cabinet pulls and want a more sleek, streamlined appearance.

The coved finger pull is a routed out section of the backside of the door frame and is an option for all sizes of ClimaCabs. For the ClimaCab Micro and Petite, which have one door, we can install in the center of the door frame on the upper and lower section. For the ClimaCab Petite+ and larger, which have two doors, we must route out the top of the door frames for the upper and lower section. This is required because the doors meet in the center with about a 1/4" gap and with the coved finger pull centered on the frames, it would be difficult to access and use.

Custom Pulls

We can install custom hardware for a $50 fee per ClimaCab. Our recommendation of proper size is that the lower section pulls should be approximately 2/3 the size of the upper section pulls. We typically use upper section pulls that are approximately 8" - 9" long and lower section that are 5 1/2" - 6" long.

We do not recommend putting knobs on the upper section; however, they can work appropriately on the lower section doors.

In order to keep this process simplfiied, we request that our customers purchase the hardware and ship to us. We will coordinate with the build team to ensure they are utilized and installed in the proper locations.

Inlays

We have partnered with Aulson Inlay to provide a wide array of inlay options. They are experts in their field and have worked with many prominent luthiers. The possible inlay materials range greatly, but typically consist of wood, shell, stone, coral, and other natural materials.

With the ability to work one-on-one with the in-house designer or to provide your own designs, the options are virtually unlimited. The process involves consultation with Aulson, a selection of inlay materials, a review and approval of pre-production renderings, and several test cuts prior to inlaying any actual components of the ClimaCab.

Pricing is based on several factors and is quoted after the project details have been fully identified.

Locks

Overview

Our locking mechanism is a three-part system which results in exceptional security and safety. In order to secure the left door frame, we implement a turnbuckle latch system by utilizing two hardwood blocks (one at top and one at bottom) that rotate 90 degrees to overlap the framing of the upper section. On the exterior we feature a keyed cam type lock which extends an arm into a plate routed into the board mounted to the backside of the left door frame.

Purchase Information

There are three primary methods to purchase a ClimaCab:

  • Built-to-Order: we sell build slots for small batch production runs
  • In-Stock Inventory: browse our limited supply of ready-to-ship ClimaCabs
  • Contact Us: we will walk you through the process

All ClimaCabs that are built-to-order are handmade in small batches of approximately 25 ClimaCabs. On average, we have around three to four builds per year. This allows for efficiency in completing steps for multiple cabinets simultaneously, while still giving individual attention to each ClimaCab and leaving no detail overlooked during the build.

The lead time for built-to-order ClimaCabs is approximately 7 - 9 months for standard sizes, features, and most options.  For Climacabs with more customized aspects, we estimate those to take approximately 3 - 4 months additional. This is due to high demand, batch building, a small team of skilled craftsman, and the handmade aspects of the ClimaCab. All projected timelines can be extended due to a variety of factors and we will communicate this information as the build progresses.

All in-stock ClimaCabs are subject to availability and we will update the inventory in a timely manner.

Buy A Build Slot

We sell build slots for upcoming or current batches, depending on the timing of your order. The build slot is a non-refundable $2,500 deposit, with 1/2 the remaining balance due at approximately the halfway point of construction and the final 1/2 of the remaining balance plus freight/crate charges due at completion. When purchasing a build slot, the wide array of options are available to fully customize the ClimaCab. In order to identify the features and options of the ClimaCab, we have created a ClimaCab Order Summary Form. This form will be completed by a member of Acoustic Remedy assisting with completion. You can contact us in various methods shown in the Contact Us section below.
